Overview

Academy Director Gavin Gobby has experienced firsthand, as performance consultant, what it takes to be a successful trader and how attitudes, beliefs and emotions influence trading performance. He has been instrumental in the development and delivery of trader training and development programs, sophisticated graduate selection processes, and performance management benchmarking at MAREX Trading Services, drawing on his modelling and research of successful traders as well as his work with professional athletes. 

 

The success of the learning and development solutions inspired us to establish the MAREX Trading Academy with the aim of enabling all our clients access to professional services and the opportunity to improve their trading results.

Gavin has extensive international coaching, consulting and facilitating experience with sports people and teams, at elite and professional level, and executives across various industries. He has a BSc (Hons), is a Sportsmind Master Performance Coach, NLP Master Practitioner and a certified Executive Coach.

When it comes to the fundamentals of successful trading, we believe in finding an expert who not only knows their subject but can share their knowledge effectively. Frequent contributors from our extensive network of experienced coaches and trainers are featured below.

Karen Unwin worked alongside Gavin to develop the different recruitment and learning solutions for traders in London, Gibraltar and Chicago. She also delivered training and coaching programs for new and experienced traders. Karen also consults to competitors in other challenging arenas, such as the Boardroom, both as an Executive Coach and on the development of high-performing teams.

Karen is a Master Practitioner and Trainer of NLP, NLP Coach, Sportsmind Master Performance Coach and member of the International Coaching Federation, with an MBA and widespread consulting and business development experience with blue-chip companies across a variety of sectors.

Charles Faulkner is best known for his NLP modelling of top traders. He is interviewed in The New Market Wizards, The Outer Game of Trading, The Intuitive Trader, and many trading magazines including Stocks & Commodities. A contributor to Trend Following and SFO Magazine, he has spoken at the CBOT Members Only Seminars, FIA Conference, Market Timers Association and Futures Magazine Conferences. He worked with market wizard Ed Seykota, modelled his Trading Tribe Process (TTP), and started tribes in the US and UK.

Charles is a leading NLP Trainer and co-author of the Amazon.com bestseller NLP: The New Technology of Achievement as well as producing programs on Success Mastery and Creating Irresistible Influence.

Charles coaches traders and trading firms on how they can overcome decision biases and limitations [Prospect Theory/Behavioural Finance] and gain a real mental edge in the markets.

Bill Hubard began his career at the Morgan Guaranty Trust Co of New York in September 1971. He then moved to F.S. Smithers to do risk arbitrage/mortgage-backed securities. In 1978 he formed MaxCor with Bruce Maxwell to do repos (one of the first government repo brokers in New York), and for seven years was the repo broker for Salomon Brothers. He also helped execute the first asset swap between Citicorp and Detroit Edison. Bill then ran the Asset-Liability group for RZB-Austria. Retiring from the markets in 1995, Bill ran Bloomberg's in-house training program and went on to give a series of lectures to the fledgling Bloomberg TV operation. He followed this with a two-year stint with CNBCTV (Europe) as economics commentator.

Clive Lambert is an independent technical analyst who writes daily analysis as "Futurestechs". He has 20 years city experience (10 Years as a broker on the floor of LIFFE), has been writing about the markets for five years and has a strong client base of futures traders both in the City and around Europe who subscribe to his daily technical commentary. He is a Board member of the UK Society of Technical Analysts and regularly conducts seminars for, amongst others, the STA and the Chicago Board of Trade In addition to our associate team, we work in partnership with the major exchanges to bring you master classes in specialist areas and the latest market innovations. David Ford started working in the City of London in 1987 at the London Traded Options Market where he was responsible for training Exchange and Member Firm staff in options. In 1992 David moved to Wise Speke stockbrokers. After broking equity options for 5 years David joined the International Petroleum Exchange. At the IPE he was Managing Director of IPE Training Ltd, the training and education subsidiary of the exchange, establishing it as a worldwide provider of quality energy related training courses. David has lectured on energy related topics throughout Europe, Russia, Kazakhstan, Dubai, China and USA. David is the author of “An investors guide to traded options” and “Mastering exchange traded equity options”.
